The Best Thing You Can Do for Your Energy? Be Kind.
It sounds simple - almost too simple. But one of the most powerful things you can do for your energy is to be kind. To others, yes - but especially to yourself.
We often overlook how deeply our words (even the ones said in passing, even the ones said in our heads) can shape our energy. I find it genuinely scary how often people say mean things about themselves without even realising it. Whether it’s a joke, a comparison, or a throwaway comment, it still lands. And it still sticks.
We live in a world that constantly judges us - on social media, in our relationships, in everyday life. So why do we join in and judge ourselves too? Why do we add to the noise instead of offering ourselves softness?
I always say this to my friends - probably to the point where they roll their eyes - but it honestly hurts to hear the people I love speak badly about themselves. Even little things. Because those little things become a lens. They change the way you see yourself… and eventually, the way others see you too.
Try this:
Compliment yourself every single day. It might feel silly at first, but it will shift something in you. Notice when someone gives you a compliment too - and instead of brushing it off or arguing with it, just say thank you. Let it in. That’s an act of kindness too.
And while we’re talking about kindness - it’s not just about being generous or giving time or money. Kindness also means forgiveness. Letting things go. Releasing yourself from the grip of something that’s been weighing you down.
If someone upsets you simply by being themselves - by just going about their day - ask yourself why it’s upsetting you. A friend once said this to me and it changed my life. Not everything that bothers us is about the other person. Sometimes it’s something within us that needs tending to, healing, or softening.
(Of course, this doesn’t apply to people who are deliberately unkind or harmful. You’re allowed to protect yourself. This isn’t about becoming a doormat - it’s about reclaiming your peace.)
The truth is, energy is contagious. And kindness is a high-frequency energy. When you’re kind to yourself, when you move through the world with compassion - even when it’s quiet and subtle - that energy expands. It clears space. It lifts. It protects.
So if you feel like you haven’t achieved anything today, try just one thing:
Be kind.
To yourself. To someone else. To the parts of you that need love.
It matters more than you think.
