Rituals, Energy & the Unseen: A Deeper Look into the Practice
What Exactly Is a Ritual?
The word ritual is often met with mystery, curiosity, or even a little fear. But the truth is, rituals are part of everyday life - whether we realise it or not.
According to the Oxford Dictionary, a ritual is:
“a religious or solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order.”
Sounds serious, doesn’t it? But in reality, rituals can be beautifully simple. A morning routine. A skincare practice. A quiet cup of tea at the same time every day. If it shifts your energy, grounds you, or lifts your spirit - that, to me, is a ritual.
So… Can Anyone Perform Rituals?
Technically, yes - but with care.
Rituals are rooted in intention. It’s not about following strict steps or copying what others are doing. It’s about knowing why you’re doing it, what energy you’re working with, and what you hope to shift or create.
Energy work can be powerful - and it can also leave you open. That’s why I never practice when I’m feeling anxious, low, or vulnerable. You have to ask yourself: If something heavy or unwanted were to come through, would I be able to handle it?
Protection and grounding is key. Rituals should always come from a place of strength and awareness, not desperation.
The Elements in My Practice
Over time, I realised that I was instinctively incorporating the elements into my rituals: Water, Fire, Air, and Nature - each in a way that felt right to me.
Water
Water is always my beginning.
I never perform a ritual without first having a shower - not just to clean my body, but to cleanse my energy. I stand under the water with intent, scrubbing from top to bottom, and watching anything heavy or negative be washed away.
This is why I never get into bed without showering - my bed is sacred. It holds my dreams, my rest, and my deepest energy. It must stay clear.
If someone’s been thinking negatively about you - even unknowingly - that energy can cling. Ever feel heavy for no reason? That could be why. I always recommend a hot shower, and if you can, stand on a little salt before turning on the water. Let it draw out what no longer serves you.
Fire
Fire is in every ritual I do. Candles, intentional lighting, total darkness except for flame. I let fire transform the space. I also use specific sound frequencies that match the energy I’m working with - music has always been a deep part of my connection.
Air
Air, for me, is less about incense or breeze - it’s about visualisation. This is the part that’s hardest to explain, and the part I’ve done since I was young. I see the energy. I speak to it. I feel it shift. It’s not something I learned. It just is. It’s been with me for as long as I can remember.
Nature
My connection to nature doesn’t always look the way people expect. I don’t often use herbs or flowers - though they’re powerful tools for many. Instead, I connect with the sky: the sun, the moon, the stars. I feel electric during storms and they become part of my visualisation and energy work.
“Could You Quickly…”
I get asked this all the time - “Could you quickly do a ritual for me?” And the answer is always: No. Gently, respectfully - but definitely no. Rituals take time, presence, and a huge amount of energy. They can’t be rushed. If someone offers to do one “quickly,” it likely won’t hold the power or protection it needs. This kind of work is sacred. It deserves slowness, care, and focus.
Your Ritual Is Yours
I’ve never been taught how to perform rituals. I didn’t take a course. I didn’t follow a how-to. I just followed what felt right - and I still do. This is a practice I’ve been building for over 15 years, slowly and intuitively. If you’re beginning your own ritual journey, trust your instincts. Try things. See what resonates. Let it be yours. There’s no one way to do this work - just your way. That’s the magic.
